HIV is the virus that can cause AIDS
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infects humans. Over time, it will cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). If detected and treated early, and if treatment is maintained, someone infected can live decades with the infection.
